This book was designed and realized within the framework of the Publication and Dissemination activities of the TERRA- DIAS programme, with the purpose of promoting the natural and cultural heritage of the sensitive areas of Crete, that have been incorporated within this programme, projecting those special features that are characteristic of its phisiognomy.

The presentation of the pilot projects, carried out in DIAS area, as models of rational management of the cultural and natural heritage will assist one in getting: an appreciation of the philosophy behind the programme; understanding of the importance of the small, but significant interventions and the interaction that these projects create, within the local communities and their contribution to the social and economic development of the region.
